FAQ: Knit Kits and Yarn Packs

How much yarn is included in the Knit Kits and Yarn Packs you sell?

The yarn amounts included in the Knit Kits and Yarn Packs we offer are based on the recommendations provided by the pattern designer.

We have legal agreements with a range of companies and designers who allow us to offer you these patterns either for free as part of a knit kit or to use their pattern images for a yarn pack with a link to the external pattern download.

Do your design the patterns yourself?

No, we don't. We are a retail business. The patterns we offer are created by professional designers working for yarn companies such as Rellana, Pascuali, Calor Yarns and others. In addition, we are able to offer you patterns created for and translated from the German knitting magazine Rebecca.

We are not responsible for the content and accuracy of the patterns, the yarn recommendations in the pattern or the quality of the translations, as these are created by independent designers for a range of external companies outside our control. However, we are always happy to help you if there is something that doesn't make sense or if you get stuck!

Can I buy a pattern from a Knit Kit without buying the kit?

In most cases the answer is no, unless it is a printed pattern that can be sold separately.

For copyright reasons, Rebecca patterns are only available as part of a kit.

We can put together knit kits/yarn packs in other colours or colour combinations than currently available on the website, as long as you choose the same yarn as stated in the pattern (subject to availability). If you would like to make the pattern in a different colour, please get in touch and we will do our best to assist you.

Is there enough yarn in the knit kit or yarn pack to make the pattern?

The short answer is: Yes, the vast majority of knitters/crocheters will find that they have enough yarn to make the project. We have sold many, many kits over the years, and there have been only a small number of cases where knitters/crocheters had to come back for more yarn.

The yarn included in our kits is based on the recommendations of the pattern designer. However, different knitting or crocheting styles can impact on the amount of yarn you use. If you adjust or change the pattern in any way, then you will also use more or less yarn than in the pattern. In addition, the actual amount of yarn in a typical 50g ball of yarn can also be impacted by a range of factors (for more details see our blog entry on why a 50g ball of yarn doesn't always weigh 50g).

To address this issue, all reputable pattern designers test patterns and yarn consumption by employing a number test knitters who test the accuracy of the pattern and the amount of yarn needed to create the project.

That means that the vast majority of knitters or crocheters will find that they have enough yarn to successfully complete their project with the yarn included in the knit kit or yarn pack, however, individual experiences may differ.

If you often find yourself short of yarn when knitting from a pattern, we recommend you order an extra ball to make sure you don't get caught out. We do our best to keep our stock levels up but we cannot guarantee that we always have the right colours or the right yarn in stock. This is particularly true since the outbreak of COVID-19 which has had a great impact on every aspect of the supply chain in the yarn industry.

What is the difference between Knit Kits and Yarn Packs?

Knit Kits include a pattern (pattern download or printed pattern as indicated in the product description). Yarn Packs include the yarn only, the designer has asked us that the pattern be purchased and downloaded separately from them - you will find the link to the pattern in the product description.

Do Knit Kits or Yarn Packs include needles or hooks?

No, knit kits and yarn packs do NOT include knitting needles, crochet hooks or any other accessories. Most knitters already have an assortment of needles, hooks and other tools at home and it would unnecessarily raise the cost of the kits to include those. We do stock a range of quality needles and hooks for you to order.
