Felting - which yarns should you choose?

Posted on

We import speciality felting yarns from Germany for our popular slipper patterns, but there are other yarns that also felt well.

When should you use felting yarns

Felting yarns are specifically designed for felting. If you use our slipper pattern with our felting yarn, you are going to end up with felted  slippers that will match your expectations and the size you are after.

Obviously, felting depends on both the quality of the yarn and your washing machine, so you may have to adjust your settings so that it works with your machine (for more information on how to do this, please read my blog entry on trouble-shooting felting).

If you use a yarn that is thicker or thinner, you may not end up with the size you wanted.

Sometimes, size is not really the main factor. You may want to make a felted bag, for example, or a felted cushion cover, or other felted items where you are happy to experiment with different yarns, colours and sizes.Felted Basket - I Wool Knit

For those projects, you might like to have a look at our Marks and Linen Eco-Ull and Eco-BabyUll yarns. They come in a huge range of colours and are well suited to felting in the washing machine.
